Motown at The Arcada
Wilson will perform her trademarked Motown hits at the classic St. Charles theater. She will be performing alongside the band Reflection as they perform their electrifying tribute to the Four Tops and othercherished Motown favorites. Mary Wilson, a native of Detroit, realized as a teen that musical stardomwas her destiny. Little did she know she would soon become one of the mostwell known faces of the Motown period. In the early 60s Wilson was part of the hitmaking foursome, The Supremes, along with Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Barbara Martin. The group produced a dozen number one hits between 1964 and 1969. The group is the only one in American music history to have five consecutive number one hits between 1964 and1965, followed by four consecutive hits between 1966 and 1967. Their hits included "Where Did Our Love Go?," "Baby Love," "Stop! In The Name Of Love," and "You Keep Me Hangin' On." "Hangin' on" is exactly what Mary Wilson did, as she was the only Supreme to stay with the group from beginning to end. Although Diana Ross left in 1970 to pursue a solo career and other members were frequently replaced, Wilson stuck through it all, teaching the new members the inimitable Supreme style.
In 1977 Wilson officially left the group to pursue her career as a soloartist. She later wrote a New York Times best-selling book about her career, "Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme." In 1988 she accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award for The Supremes at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Onesti Entertainment took over the 1926 Venetian-Spanish style theater in May. For decades the Arcada has supplied the St. Charles area with everything from vaudeville acts to film screenings and national celebrities. The Arcada Theatre is located at 105 E.
