Chamber recognizes St. Charles businesses

In addition to the signature Charlemagne Award, the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce handed out other honors at its annual banquet at the Q Center Friday night. The categories and winners are listed below.

Civic image award, which recognizes humanitarian efforts, and civic or personal projects outside of business, by chamber members, which have brought positive recognition to St. Charles:

•Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s public art committee for debuting three major works of public art: The Walkin’ Brick Blues mural, the Col. Edward Baker sculpture and the Classic Cars on Cedar mural;

•Sue Klinkhamer, St. Charles mayor from 1997 to 2005, for her dedication to the city.

Community IMAGE (Improvement, Merit Award Given for Excellence) award, for chamber members who have made significant improvements such as new or additional landscaping, interior remodeling or improved signage or exterior or structural improvements:

•Onesti Entertainment Corp. for the Arcada Theater revival;

•Colm Headley and Tom Castronovo for the Beehive Tavern & Grill, a new business in a renovated historic building;

•Rod MacNeille, president of Charlestowne Kitchen & Bath for an enlarged showroom and expanded countertop plant;

•The city of St. Charles, the Noon Kiwanis Club and the Downtown St. Charles Partnership for the new steps to the Fox River bike path, and the city and partnership for the new Cedar Avenue parking lot retaining wall;

•John and Chris Stumpf, owners of Dinner by Design, the first home meal replacement kitchen in the Fox Valley;

•Jodie Rees and Julie McGuire, owners of the Men’s Groom Room, a new full-service salon and spa for men located in downtown St. Charles;

•The St. Charles Park District for Campton Hills Splash Park, a new water park.

Community development award:

•Aquascape Designs, which built a new $16.5 million headquarters in St. Charles in 2005;

•Benchmark Bank, a building with a mix of styles that anchors the Remington Glen development;

•Cyndirella’s Academy of Style & Beauty, a new beauty school in a repainted building on Main Street;

•DuPage Expo Center, a revitalized pavilion across Main Street from Pheasant Run Resort that hosts trade shows, special events and expositions;

•Harris Bank on Randall Road, a 28-year-old building that underwent a major interior and exterior renovation;

•The White Front Hotel, a 155-year-old building in downtown St. Charles that underwent a $1.1 million interior and exterior renovation to become the Beehive Tavern & Grill and several apartment units;

•Wine Sergi, a new 33,000-square-foot building on Smith Road.

Small business award, which recognizes a privately held business of 75 or fewer employees that has been in business at least four years and has grown and been involved in the community:

•McDowell Inc., a family-run remodeling company.

LEAP (Leadership, Excellence, Achievement, Professionalism) award for women in business:

•Zoe Ingersoll, of Ingersoll & Assoc., a pharmaceutical preparations company.
